Your NDIS plan may include funding in one or more support budgets. Understanding how these budgets work can help you read your plan with more confidence and use funding in line with your goals.
The 4 support budgets
The NDIS explains that plans can include funding across four types of support budget: core supports, capacity building supports, capital supports and recurring supports. Not every participant will have funding in every budget-plans are based on individual needs.
How budgets help organise your plan
Support budgets group different types of funding so you can see what has been approved and how it can be used. Some support categories are flexible, while stated supports can only be used for the specific supports described in your plan.
Using funding carefully
NDIS funding can only be used for supports that are related to your disability and in line with your plan. The NDIS has separate lists that explain what is and is not an NDIS support, so it is worth checking before making a purchase if you are unsure.
A helpful next step
Keep a copy of your plan, note questions as they come up, and use official NDIS information when you need clarification. You can read the NDIS guide to support budgets and the NDIS overview of supports. This article is general information only.
